The earliest known use of cast stone dates to the year 1138 and was seen at Carcassonne, France. Many of the mould making techniques used at that time were identical to those used by the Romans when making exact replicas of Greek ornamentation. Today, Stoneware Studios carries on this most ancient of crafts.

Cast stone offers many advantages over cut stone. Cast stone can be integrally reinforced and precisely coloured. Mix designs have tested engineering values, resulting in a predictable, durable life. Repetitive stone ornament can be achieved quite economically in cast stone.

Cast stone can take the form of decorative embellishment or can be simply structural. Stoneware Studios hold a standard range but are also available to take bespoke commissions.
